Industrial cooling
ONI designs and builds refrigeration systems ranging from individual chillers to central refrigeration supply systems—including rental refrigeration, data center solutions, and heat recovery integration. Industry standards today include free/adiabatic cooling, speed-controlled components, and—depending on the application—refrigerants with low GWP (e.g., R290). We align ourselves with these standards and combine them with ONI’s track record, service organization, and manufacturer-independent design.
- Efficient cooling with free/adiabatic cooling
- Heat recovery
- Project-specific use of natural refrigerants
- Up to ~40% less energy consumption through modern free/adiabatic concepts
Heat loads are constantly generated in manufacturing and industrial settings—for example, in machine tools, hydraulic systems, forming and injection molding processes, or during temperature control. Benefits of a professionally designed cooling system:
- Low kWh/cooling, high availability—with a robust Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) case, manufacturer independence, and 24/7 service
- Efficiency (free/adiabatic cooling), monitoring – lower OPEX/downtime
- Natural refrigerants (project-specific): R290/Low-GWP – eligible for subsidies and future-proof
- Heat recovery: Coupling cooling → heating (heating supply, higher system COP)
- Comparable, standardized specifications, ISO-certified quality
- Short payback period through savings; ONI with >6,000 industrial customers in 70 countries
- Load measurement & operational data collection (annual load profiles, redundancy requirements)
- Variant comparison (standard, free/adiabatic cooling, heat recovery, R290 option) with TCO/ROI
- Funding and implementation roadmap; rental cooling bridge if necessary
- Detailed engineering, construction, 24/7 service contract
- Implementation & commissioning
- Control system fine-tuning, efficiency checks, maintenance and water quality plan
Compression refrigeration
We rely on compressor-based refrigeration as the reliable foundation of our industrial cooling systems. With the speed-controlled technology designed by ONI, we achieve high operational reliability, stable processes, and consistently low specific energy costs—even with fluctuating load profiles.
Applications of industrial cooling
ONI industrial cooling is typically used for:
- Removing heat from production processes (e.g., temperature-controlled and process water)
- Cooling of machines and peripherals (hydraulics, lubricants, control cabinets)
- Central cooling water networks with a defined circuit
- Efficient cooling via open-air coolers/recirculating coolers when ambient air conditions are suitable
- Stable process conditions for machine tools and precision applications
- Modular, space-saving energy/cooling centers (container solutions) for rapid expansion or on-site solutions
Kunststoff- und Elektrotechnik GmbH
Kunststoff- und Elektrotechnik GmbH uses refrigeration systems from Oni-Wärmetrafo GmbH at its production site in Mönchweiler.
Both dissipate heat into the environment. An open-air cooler uses outside air to cool the medium directly or indirectly (often very efficiently during cooler seasons). Recoolers are a key component when process heat needs to be reliably dissipated—the choice depends on the temperature level, installation location, and system design.
