Two hours of intensive briefing on a company that has focused on energy conservation for decades in this Lindlar district were likely enough to ensure that Pinkwart will long remember the three letters ONI. When the North Rhine-Westphalia Minister of Economic Affairs pulled into the company’s courtyard in Niederhabbach around 1 p.m. and was greeted there by District Administrator Jochen Hagt, Oberberg District Member of the Bundestag Dr. Carsten Brodesser, CDU Fraction Leader in the Düsseldorf State Parliament Bodo Löttgen, and Lindlar’s Mayor Dr. Georg Ludwig, he likely expected a visit like many he makes throughout North Rhine-Westphalia.
However, during a whirlwind tour through the company’s history up to its current 480-employee operation, he first gained insight into how convictions, an idea, and a garage-based business can, through innovative solutions, give rise to a medium-sized company of international standing. And ONI CEO Wolfgang Oehm naturally seized the opportunity to demonstrate the numerous possibilities for energy optimization and sustainable solutions to his guest from the state capital during a tour of the facility.
In any case, the “Onianers” have also developed a routine for conveying, with a certain consistency in verbal communication, the messages that the respective prominent visitor should take away within a tight time frame. Pinkwart thus candidly admitted that he had rarely learned so much about energy-saving and high-quality system solutions in such a short time. And when the minister learned that ONI customers save 1.7 billion euros annually by using the components from the energy experts in Lindlar, Pinkwart took notice. “The state’s finance minister should sign ONI to a contract, given the savings this company can generate,” joked the FDP politician.
He saw the company as well-positioned for the future thanks to its innovative solutions. According to Pinkwart, hardly any modern business can get by these days without digital offerings for remote maintenance. This trend will only increase in the future. Therefore, top-quality data lines and expansion options are essential, especially for many small and medium-sized businesses headquartered outside urban centers. This is taken into account in the new state development plan.
