The energy sector with energy-efficient system solutions
In the energy sector, security of supply, efficiency, and availability are key to economic viability and meeting regulatory targets. ONI consistently utilizes waste heat and accelerates retrofits and new construction with prefabricated energy centers—ensuring minimal downtime and significant CO₂ savings.
Heat recovery is a key lever in energy-intensive operations: waste heat from process cooling, compressed air, furnaces, or compressors reduces primary energy demand and energy CAPEX (e.g., lower boiler capacity). In combination with modular energy centers (heat pumps, CHP units, peak load systems, storage), projects can be implemented quickly and at scale. We create the technical prerequisites for ISO 50001-compliant energy optimization.
- Quick results with clear KPIs (ΔkWh/CO₂), easy integration into existing systems
- A single provider for planning, construction, and operation, with transparent service and pricing logic
- Visible ROI, funding opportunities, scalability for a network of sites
- Cost reduction: Heating and process heat from waste heat instead of primary energy
- Accelerate progress: Prefabrication shortens implementation time and minimizes downtime
- Minimize risks: maintenance, service, and financing from a single source
- Prepared for the future: Adapted to new requirements (e.g., expansion of renewable energy, storage integration, district heating)
We begin with an on-site analysis of your load profiles, plant conditions, and process requirements—from which we identify weaknesses, bottlenecks, and opportunities for savings, and, if necessary, prepare a feasibility study to serve as a reliable basis for decision-making.
Further project steps:
- Concept & Design (system logic, control strategy, integration into existing equipment)
- Subsidy/Regulatory Check (BAFA/EnEfG requirements, refrigerant roadmap)
- Technical Concept + ROI (Temperature Control, Refrigeration, Heat Recovery; Variant Comparison)
- Pilot cell → Rollout with 24/7 service and performance monitoring
- Optional addition of long-term monitoring and regular optimizations to ensure long-term efficiency and availability
High electricity costs due to cooling and auxiliary power (pumps, compressors, and peripheral equipment):
In energy facilities (e.g., converter stations, storage facilities, process and infrastructure cooling), cooling circuits and their auxiliary equipment drive up operating costs—which is why the focus is on reducing electricity demand (especially during partial load conditions and high operating hours).
Waste heat is still too often "cooled away" instead of being utilized (costs + decarbonization):
Operators have simultaneous cooling and heating needs—but waste heat from cooling water, compressed air generation, or processes is often discharged unused. The challenge is to technically and efficiently bring this heat to a usable temperature level and permanently integrate it into building heating or process heating.
Supply Security / Availability:
24/7 operation, redundancy, and rapid service instead of downtime: In the energy sector, temperature issues or cooling/HVAC failures directly lead to performance drops, plant shutdowns, or safety risks. Accordingly, the challenge is to design robust systems (including redundancy), monitor them proactively (remote maintenance), and be able to respond quickly throughout their lifecycle.
